DRIVERS

ALL DIVISIONS

  • All drivers must wear an Australian Standards Approved helmet. Bicycle / skateboard (AS/NZS 2063) or motorcycle (AS/NZS 1698:2006).
  • Helmets must pass scrutineering by event organisers.
  • Eye protection is recommended.
  • Long sleeve shirt and trousers (wrist to ankle) must be worn.
  • The driver must be seated, such that at all times the feet are forward of the head.
  • Enclosed boots or shoes must be worn.

JUNIOR SOAPBOX (DIVISIONS A AND B)

  • A current School Identification Card, Proof of Age Card or Birth Certificate must be carried and presented to the event staff if/ when asked.

SOAPBOX (DIVISIONS A, B AND C)

  • Drivers must wear elbow and knee protection.

GRAVITY AND SOAP BOX CARS

CARS ALL DIVISIONS

  • All Gravity Cars must pass scrutineering by the event staff, with random scrutineering taking place throughout the day.
  • Windshield or windscreens must be made of Polycarbonate or Lexan. No glass or Perspex is allowed.
  • Seat belts of an approved type (i.e. racing harness of lap sash) must be fitted in a safe and secure manner.
  • Brakes that require removal of hands from steering wheel will not be permitted and the car will not be allowed to compete.
  • Cars must be able to exit the starting ramp safely. The Starting Ramp slope is 1 in 4.
  • If fitted, Roll Bars must be a minimum diameter of 25mm (1”).
  • Roll Bars must be bolted or welded to the floor.
  • Roll Bars must be of sufficient height to prevent the driver’s head contacting the ground should the car roll.
  • Any additional weight must be fixed securely.

SOAPBOX (DIVISIONS A, B AND C)

  • The cars are to be made of ‘SOAPBOX’ type construction with rope steering.
  • Soapbox cars must have sides to improve protection for drivers.
  • Steering blocks must be fitted to the car such that the axles can rotate no greater than 10° in either direction (refer to diagram).
  • The base board for the car needs to be wide enough to hold the drivers body, and have fixed seating.
  • The car must have four wheels with solid tyres. No bearings permitted however, bushes are allowed.
  • Wheels need to be sturdy enough to withstand the speed and bumps that will be encountered.
  • Plastic wheels are not recommended.

OPEN SENIOR (DIVISIONS F AND G)

  • Must have four wheels with wheel bearings of your choice.

WEIRD AND WHACKY

  • The bodywork or superstructure of the car can be as creative as you like however, the car must be safe, controllable and must pass scrutineering by the event staff.
